CISG 102-  Introduction to Game Design & Simulation

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course introduces the basic techniques, concepts, and vocabulary of electronic game and simulation development. Topics such as storyboarding, character creation, scorekeeping, and the psychology of gaming will be discussed. Additionally students will develop games for both recreation and educational settings utilizing several types of software.

SOFTWARE: Game Maker Game Software (in classroom and available to download free); dependable Internet connection outside of class.

HARDWARE: This course assumes availability to a PC with the aforementioned software installed. All campuses provide access to computer labs. Please call for current hours. USB/Flash drive required.


ATTENDANCE & EXPECTATIONS

This is a hands-on class, with much of the material being accumulative. You will need to spend at east 4 - 6 hours a week, outside of class, reading, preparing assignments and labs. It is imperative that you attend class regularly. If you are absent more than four times , you will receive an F for the course (except under exceptional circumstances). You are responsible for all missed work. Make-up quizzes may be given at the discretion of the instructor- make sure you contact me BEFORE you miss a quiz.


EVALUATION

Students will be evaluated on exams, labs, homework assignments, and class participation. Assignments will not be accepted more than one week late. It is important that assignments be handed in on time and complete. All assignments will be submitted through electronically through Blackboard unless otherwise stated..

It is your responsibility to be sure you have submitted everything on time. You should frequently check to see which assignments are due and which have been graded. Extensions and make-ups will only be given under extreme circumstances. Personal computer problems are not an acceptable excuse for late work.

Please complete reading assignments prior to class.
