CISC 100 - Introduction to Computers

COURSE DESCRIPTION

A hands-on course for non-majors dealing with personal computers in a wide variety of settings. Topics include: basic computer concepts, operating systems, the Internet, email, and the use of computer applications, including word processors, spreadsheets, graphics, and the impact of computers on society.

You MUST have access to a computer running Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2010.  If you do not have Office you can purchase Office 2010 online at The Ultimate Steal . Earlier versions of MS Windows and MS Office are not acceptable for this course. Computers are available for your use on campus 7 days a week. USB disk for student files is recommended.

ATTN APPLE/MAC USERS: We will be utilizing SAM. Apple does not support Flash; therefore you will not be able to use an Apple/Mac platform to complete this course.

ATTENDANCE & EXPECTATIONS

Lecture attendance is required. Lab time is provided for students to complete office assignments, quizzes and projects. If you are unable to attend class please let me know via Bb Vista email prior to class. Class will start promptly, please be on time. If for some reason I am not in class as scheduled, please check Bb for announcements.


EVALUATION

You will be evaluated based on your combined performance of the following criteria: attendance, participation, assignments, quizzes, midterm exam and a departmental final exam.  All assignments are due on the date as stated on the course outline.  All testing is administered on-line as stated on the course outline.

It is your responsibility to be sure you have submitted everything on time. You should frequently check to see which assignments are due and which have been graded. Extensions and make-ups will only be given under extreme circumstances. Personal computer problems are not an acceptable excuse for late work.
